On June 8, Mayor Richard M. Daley today welcomed the cast and crew of “The Dark Knight,” the follow-up to Warner Bros.’ “Batman Begins,” back to Chicago for 12 weeks of filming.
“We’re happy to have them back in Chicago,” Daley said at a City Hall news conference. “We do this because it creates jobs for the hard-working people of our city – not only actors, but also crew members, caterers, electricians, truck drivers and all the others who devote their talents and skills to the enterprise.”

Sometimes alumni write to let us know what they’re up to. This email came from a 3-week term student, who completed an IT placement with Deeply Rooted Productions integrated with the Chicago Communities and Cultures Seminar.
He writes:
Dear Chicago Center,
Visiting Chicago was most definitely a life changing experience for me and you made it possible. The short term internship/experience I was able to get through your efforts was a badly needed life experience for me, thank you for providing it to me.
Through the things I learned while in Chicago I have learned to open my eyes up to other views on life, and while my personal views and beliefs have not drastically changed, they have become more aware of other people’s unique experiences and how their life can be so much different than my own yet we can all still share a drink, a good book, and life’s lessons together to better prepare ourselves, and understand other people.
Today I work for a small Computer shop in Delphos Ohio fixing and repairing computers in more ways than I had thought possible. I have started to do some more in depth programming and have created a few interesting programs that should keep me busy for quite a while
The best part of all though is that I’m now (and have been for some time) dating another girl who was also on the trip, and it seems like things are going to stick. We are hoping to get married sometime next year.
Thank you all for the memories and life’s experiences that I was able to learn while in Chicago.

Summer Session students attend ”Cocktails and Clay,” a monthly event at Hyde Park Arts Center. You can see a group of students with Executive Director Scott Chesebro through the doorway on the left, and then in the studio with artist Theaster Gates.
