Application Process
   
  • Use a paper clip only to attach forms.
  • All forms requiring signature(s) may be sent by mail or fax.
  • All other forms may be sent by email, fax or mail.
  • Your application is complete when we have all your required forms and your application fee.

You may pay the $30 application fee online or send a check, money order or cashier's check payable to Chicago Center.

DEADLINES: Applications are accepted on a first-come, first served basis. It’s best to get your applications in at least 3 months for the term you are applying for.

    EXCEPTIONS: TeachChicago Student Teaching and BSW Practicum applications need to arrive, complete, by Jan. 20 for the following Fall Semester and Sept. 20 for the following Spring Semester.

    Some campuses have an additional application or deadline for off-campus study. Check with your campus liaison for requirements and deadlines.

  • Allow 2 weeks for processing of your completed application once it has been received.
  • Register for credit on your campus, or enroll as a 'Guest Student' of Millikin University and make sure you visit your financial aid office!

The Chicago Center Application includes the following:

  • a one to two-page essay explaining your personal and academic reasons for attending Chicago Center
  • your resume
  • a transcript if you are applying to the TeachChicago! Student Teaching Program
  • $30 application fee (check or money order, made payable to Chicago Center) or you may pay by any credit card online- or give us a call at 773.363.1312 or 1.800.747.6089

NOTE: NOTE: If you're applying to the TeachChicago! Student Teaching program, you will also complete a Chicago Public School (CPS) application after you've been  accepted by Chicago Center. Our staff will oversee this process with you.

    Registering for Credit & Paying Tuition  
    1. Indicate on page 2 of the Chicago Center Application Cover Sheet if you will be receiving credit, or attending as an audit* student.  
       
    2. You must register on campus for your credits, and pay the tuition, before you arrive in Chicago. Click here for a list of colleges and universities that award a full term of credit (often based on the student's major) for Chicago Center Programs.Campus Liaisons or your Registrar will help you determine what courses from your college or university you will receive credit for while you attend Chicago Center.  
       
   

3. If your college or university is not affiliated with Chicago Center, you will pay tuition to and receive your credit through Millikin University. You are responsible to transfer the credits back to your college or university.

If you are matriculating as a “Guest Student" of Millikin University, we will send a copy of your Chicago Center Application Cover Sheet to Registrar Walt Wessel. They will send you a tuition invoice (typically by email) and you'll pay your tuition to Millikin University. Download the 2008 Millikin University "Guest Student fees sheet here.

NOTE: “Guest Student” status does not apply to students who are already full time, on-campus students of Millikin University.

For the following terms of study, these are the credits you will receive as a Guest Student of Millikin University:

May Term: SOC 355 for 4 credit hours

January Term: SOC 355 for 4 credit hours

Summer Session: SOC 350, 3 credit hours (for the Chicago Seminar) + SOC 355, 6 credit hours (for your Internship) = 9 credit hours total

Semester: SOC 350, 3 credit hours (for the Chicago Seminar) + SOC 355, 8 credit hours (for your Internship) + SOC 340 (for the Directed Study) 3 credit hours = 14 credit hours total

 
 

*Audit students pay a non-tuition audit fee in addition to the Program Fee.
