Apna Ghar

Social service organization providing education and services concerning domestic violence. Includes awareness workshops in public schools, shelter, resources, training, etc., serving predominantly the Southeast Asian community.

Chicago Abused Women Coalition/Greenhouse

Founded in 1977, CAWC established Chicago’s first 24-hour domestic violence hotline and opened Greenhouse Shelter, Chicago’s first safe refuge for battered women and their children. CAWC’s keystone programs and services continue to provide comprehensive life-saving assistance to over 1,000 women and children each year. In addition, CAWC has become known for innovative model programs and partnerships

Deborah’s Place

Serves women who are 18 and older who are homeless. Services include overnight shelter, daytime support, second stage housing, transitional shelter, supportive permanent housing, case management, therapeutic services, education and skills development.

Family Rescue

Domestic violence program with emergency shelter, outreach/prevention program, counseling, transitional housing with 22 apartments, day care center, 24 hour crisis center and speakers bureau.

Genesis House

Social service agency that helps women who have been involved in prostitution. There are three locations, two drop-in centers, two food pantries, clean needle exchange, some health care, court outreach, street outreach, HIV program, living program and career services.

Women’s shelter.

Irene’s Place

Serves women who are homeless by providing a variety of social services, including art therapy.

Maria’s Shelter

Shelter that provides clinical psychology, case management, healthcare, a learning lab, job training, as well as a shelter for women and children.

Midwest Women’s Center

Non-profit organization that gives disadvantaged women resources and opportunities to improve their economic conditions. The program focuses on training, education and employment.

Mujeras Latinas de Accion

Organization that provides domestic violence counseling, sexual assault counseling, work training, legal referrals, and assists with immigration issues.

National Abortion and Rape Rights Action League

Non-profit organization that stresses the importance of reproductive freedom, education and choices. Works with individuals, community and political sectors.

Rape Victim Advocates

Provides crisis hotline, hospital advocacy, legal advocacy, counseling for adults and adolescence. Training is available to student interns.

Sarah’s Circle

Drop-in center that offers a welcoming, supportive, non-intrusive, safe haven for women who are homeless or of low-income, offers refuge from the street and free services and activities such as counseling and support groups, and a variety of activities.

Southwest Women Working Together

Helps with women and children victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse via counseling, employment, shelters, and assistance with the search for affordable housing.

YWCA or Metropolitan Chicago Loop Women’s Services

Assist with the Rape Crisis Hotline and the Medical Advocacy Program. Deal di rectly with survivors of sexual assault and their significant others in an emergency room setting and on the crisis hotline. Interns also have the opportunity to assist with speaking engagements and public education, and would learn about daily operations of a non-profit women-centered agency.
