Social Work Practicum
For practical social work experience, there is no better place to start your career than the Chicago Center. Through our placements, you can work in a variety of fields: refugee and immigrant services, medical social work, family services, HIV/AIDS services, community organizing and more. You’ll be guided through the program in a weekly seminar, offering mentor advice and professional development.
We encourage you to set up a pre-program visit to tour your placement site, meet the staff you’ll be working with, and see what our neighborhood and housing is like.
Practicum Placements
Placements are chosen in compliance with the standards and requirements for the BSW degree at your college and for your state. Chicago Center offers a wide spectrum of practicum site possibilities. Your Practicum Placement will be assigned to you by the Chicago Center Social Work Practicum Director based on your interests and certification needs.
Chicago Center chooses Practicum Placements that have proven track records. Our goal is the same as yours: To prepare you to be the best social worker and to broaden your options for where you will choose to practice once you graduate.
Credit
You’ll enroll on campus for the same credits as if you were staying there to complete the Practicum Semester.
Your certification requirements for your state and campus’ program will be met by your Chicago Center program.
Check with your department or campus liaison for more information.
